My History With the Guitar -
What I learned about guitar was from instruction books and trial and error.
My main discouragement was not being able to memorize the chord sequence for any song. So even though I greatly enjoyed accompanying myself with guitar while singing, every song I played had to be done with a song sheet in front of me containing lyrics and chord symbols.
It was either that, or I had to practice one song over and over till it drove me crazy. Even "memorizing" it this way was faulty, because if I wanted to perform the song later, I would freeze up, forgetting what I had learned.
Then I stumbled onto the concept of the chord progression and figured out how to use it.
Some years before this happened, I saw on the last
page of an old chord book given to me by my wife's grandfather, several columns of chords under the title: "CHORD PROGRESSIONS".
But there was no explanation as to what they were or how they were to be used.
So on my own, I finally learned what a chord progression was and its value in helping me know WHAT chord to play and WHEN to play it for songs I knew or didn't know.
I will teach you to play rhythm guitar and show you the chord progressions in the key of C.
