I hope you enjoy the Ezra & Others CD(s)

NOTE: When I first put the photos on this web page, I had enlarged them quite a bit. But just last night, February the 17th, 2016, I noticed that it was impossible to see the previously enlarged sections of the photos outside the normal text-photo column. Sorry about that. So now, I am working on reducing all the photos back down to the standard text-photo column size, so that the complete photo may be seen. This might take a while. Sorry about that too. So for the photos I have downsized to their original format, and for the ones I have yet to do so, follow these instructions-- To enlarge the photos & text, hold down "Ctrl" & press "+" one or more times as desired. To reduce the photos & text, hold down "Ctrl "& press "-" (to left of "+" key). Then, click on scroll bar at bottom of screen & drag it all the way to the right to see complete photos. I can enlarge 5 times on my widescreen laptop & still be able to see entire photo & text. It may be different for your computer screen.—

The EZRA & OTHERS, VOL. 3 CD

Technical Information

The master cassette tape containing the songs recorded from Aug. 24-Apr. 27, 2013, for the Ezra & Others Vol. 3 CD was made with dual mics: one is a Shure SM58, close-range, which picks up my vocal & guitar; the other is a Realistic 33-1060 broad-range, which picks up mainly Ezra, Nathan, Seth & their instruments. These 2 mics are plugged into our AKAI GX-F25 stereo cassette tape deck; the resulting master tape recorded from the AKAI onto a Free Sound Recorder 9.2.7 software program on my Toshiba Satellite L355D laptop, which puts the song onto Windows Media Player; then the songs were recorded onto CD using Windows Media Player on the Toshiba laptop.

Ezra's instrumentals & songs were recorded from the Ezra's Early Songs master tape--recorded by him on his White-Westinghouse mono WPC-9538 portable cassette recorder with built-in mike.

Explanation of Terms, etc. in the Credits

"Keyboard" = Ezra's Radio Shack synthesizer. I believe he can "lay down" up to 6 tracks of sound on one song.

"Arr.--" = arranged by.

"D" = Danny.

"Rec." = recorded onto whatever master cassette tape from which it was then recorded onto this CD.

Instruments:

Nathan plays his Takamine GS330S acoustic guitar

Seth plays his Behringer electric guitar on "Ev'rybody's Talkin' (2)"; on the other songs, when he plays guitar, he uses Nathan's

Ezra, & sometimes Seth (tho' not on the same song), play Ezra's keyboard (Radio Shack General MIDI Custom Tone Synthesizer)

D plays his Epiphone FT-145 LH Texan acoustic guitar.

This CD was recorded at 960 Calvert Rd., Rising Sun, MD.  --danny

This is NOT a professionally-engineered CD. In this, our 3rd CD, I still haven't been able to record all the songs at a nearly-equal volume & balance. (My recording system may never be able to do any better ; I'll keep trying.)  --D

ACTUALLY, THE BEST WAY TO LISTEN TO THIS CD IS WITH EARPHONES. Earphones put the sound from both tracks directly into your ears, so that even if a cut is low, you can still hear it pretty well--at least in my experience.

For those of you who do not have a CD player, but do have a DVD player, you may put this CD into your DVD player & listen to it over your TV speakers.

 1. Joanna Speaks on the Ezra's Early Songs tape, beginning of Side B. Sounds like Joanna says "Hop, hop (or "Ah ah" or something)--perfect." Recording date unknown.Ezra told me that Saints & Children (Micah, Nathan, Joanna, Ezra & Alayna) were using his Ezra's Early Songs tape as a "practice" tape to record a CD  (via the AKAI tape deck) onto the "Cakewalk" software program on the desktop computer. At the time, it was the method they were using to record their songs onto CDs.

13. Poor Wayfaring Stranger, American Spiritual/folk song, likely originating in early 19 c. (according to Wikipedia). Words courtesy of Wikipedia, Johnny Cash, & Cyberhymnal. Nathan-- guitar; harmony vocals. D-- guitar; harmonica; melody vocals. Arr.-- Nathan & D. Rec. Feb. 3, 2013. I accidentally turned my mic off & didn't realize it till after we'd recorded the song. So the tape recorded Nathan & me (over Nathan's mic) on one channel only. But for some reason, there was a low hissing sound in my "silent" mic channel. To get the music to come over both speakers on the CD, I had to first re-record the song from the master tape onto another tape, & it came out sounding fuzzy, like a really old recording (you can still hear the hissing sound--kinda like wind noise).          For Daddy & Mother.

POOR WAYFARING STRANGER Photos--

Photo of Mother & Daddy, courtesy of Wilburn, who got it from a collection of photos at Mother's & put it in a Power Point display for Mother's funeral reception at Flemington Baptist Church, Jan. 12, 2013. Photo taken in 1960s  before July 23, 1966, at Old Feaster Home Place, Micanopy ; don't know who took the photo.

Note:  Photo below was taken (probly by me) 'cause it was the picture before I took the one of Nathan above. Don't know what happened to make it look like that. I was about to discard it, then realized it looks like hills or mountains & dark clouds--quite appropriate for this song.

14. Ev'rybody's Talkin' (2), by Fred Neil, 1966.

Wikipedia says-- Fred Neil (March 16, 1936, Cleveland, OH – July 7, 2001, Summerland Key, FL), raised in St. Petersburg, FL, was a folk singer-songwriter in the 1960s and early 1970s. He did not achieve commercial success as a performer, and is mainly known through other people's recordings of his material--particularly "Everybody's Talkin', " which became a hit for  Harry Nilsson after being used for the film Midnight Cowboy. Tho' highly regarded by contemporary folk singers, he was reluctant to tour (something he shared with Nilsson), and mainly spent the last 30 years of his life assisting with the preservation of dolphins.

Seth-- lead/rhythm guitar.   D-- guitar; vocals.           Arr.-- Seth & D.  Rec. Feb 6, 2010. For Mother.

15. Travel (Instrumental). This tune, by Ezra, 2008 or earlier, was later put to the words of the poem Travel by Robert Louis Stevenson (date unknown), 'tho Ezra didn't have this poem in mind when he wrote the music.

Ezra thinks we may've used this "Travel" sound track when he sang the words of the poem accompanied by Seth & D, Mar 26, 2010, on the E&OV.1 CD.

Ezra-- keyboard. Rec. 2008 or earlier.                           For Daddy &  Mother.

16. Daddy's Song, by D, July 7, 2012 - Feb 10, 2013. Nathan-- guitar; harmony vocals on intro & coda. Ezra-- keyboard. D-- guitar; vocals. Rec. Feb 11, 2013. (Note: In chorus 4, I forgot to mention Camp Blanding as one of the places Daddy worked--didn't think of it till after we'd recorded the song. And since Arlington is actually a section of Jacksonville, if we ever recorded the song again, I'd sing chorus 4 like this: "Working hard each day at Jacksonville, Camp Blanding, Cecil Field & Green Cove Springs.") This song tells pretty much a true story as best as I can remember. (Louise = Daddy's sister.) For Daddy..
